DPF Cleaning
Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) are now as common as catalytic converters on petrol cars and were developed to meet changes in emissions regulations .
This component is used to collect harmful soot which builds up on the filters walls and gradually builds up so much that it creates back pressure on the exhaust reducing performance and efficiency.
To keep this system up to the task it was entailed to do it goes through a process called ‘regeneration’ which burns the soot off of the filter at a temperature of 600 degrees centigrade.
A warning sign will illuminate on the dashboard to alert you to the problem when it occurs and at the same time on some makes and models, will put the vehicle in to a safe mode (limp mode) with reduced performance till it is fixed. This can occur when a number of factors are combined like the age of the car, the fuel used, the type of oil used and how the vehicle is driven.
In 2011 a BBC Watchdog program highlighted the issue on DPF systems and showed how some drivers were faced with bills between £1,000.00 and £1500.00.
Basic Build-up Of The Filter
In this instance a regular cleaning product is used to clear out the filter. This is when you notice a reduction in the performance of your vehicle. After application of the product and some basic driving the performance will start to gradually improve.
After this a regular maintenance should be started and done every six months to prevent the build-up.

Completely Blocked Filters
If the manual regeneration fails then the filter is blocked then a complete clean is required to resolve the problem. This requires us to undertake a process using a special cleaning agent or additionally remove it and soak it overnight.
If it gets to the stage of requiring this then we recommend regular cleansing to reduce the chance of it happening again.
The Diesel Particulate Filters treatments are have been tested and proven their effectiveness against a wide range of oils and fuel with brilliant results.
When a DPF treatment has been done numerous customers have endorsed it because of the difference it has made when driving. When the warning light comes on and they have a diagnostic, over 50% of the DPF is filled. After driving a certain number of miles after the treatment is applied, the warning lights go off on the dashboard.
You will find that once you have had a treatment to clear out DPF filter, the car will perform much better and see a change in your fuel economy.
All diesel vehicles can get a build-up of soot on DPF filter, especially those that do short journeys at low speed. To avoid this happening, get in touch and we will advise on what is suitable based on how you use your car.
