Preparing For Your MOT - Inside

Before you have your MOT test there are some things you can check on the inside of the car before you take it into the garage.  So to make life easy we have put a list of things together, to make life a little easier.

1. Check all seat belts are working correctly and are not damaged in any way.
2. Test seat belts for the locking mechanism and that it works using a short fast tug.
3. Remove anything from the rear-view mirror on the front windscreen.
4. Check your windscreen for chips and cracks, anything 10 mm in front of the driver or 40 mm in the wiper area could be a problem.
5. Check windscreen wipers are working and the Wash Bottle is filled up for use.
6. If you have a Child Seat in the vehicle, remove them before the test.
7. Check the Horn is working correctly.
8. Check all mirrors in the car are working correctly and not damaged or cracked.  Replace any broken ones.

9. Check seats are in the upright position and ensure any on runners like the passenger and driver side seats lock in to position and do not move.
10. Check the steering wheel for light or heavy movement.  This could mean there is a leak.
11. Check the handbrake releases and pulls up without too many clicks (usually 3 or 4).  If not this would require tightening.
12. Check your brakes and that the car responds accordingly to pressure on the peddle.  If it feels spongy this could mean a possible leak in the hydraulics.
13. Keep the car clean and tidy.
14. Do all doors open from inside of the vehicle.
15. After starting the car, do all notification lights except the handbrake light go out.
16. Check all indicator lights are working on the dashboard dependant on the required action.
