Causes Of Tyre Wear?
Wear comes from a range of things and cause a variety of issues. It can come from things like wheel alignment, suspension, internal tyre faults or under or over inflated tyres.
What Do You Need To Look For?
You should check your tyres once a month and this includes your tyre pressure and the tread depth, especially if your planning to go on a long journey.
If you want it inspecting by us give us a call to book yourself in for an inspection.
Different Tyre Wear
Before doing an assessment hen performing checks at home, turn the steering wheel so you can get a better view of your front tyres.
Camber Wearing
Wear can appear on the inside or outside edge as well as the shoulder will show more wearing than the rest of the tyre.
This can be caused by suspension misalignment, a worn or broken spring, a bent strut, a bent spindle which may have collapsed, a bent strut or a damaged control arm bushing.
If you spot this call us to book your vehicle in for an inspection to determine the cause of the problem.
Directional Feathered Wear
Run your hand over the tyre in the direction it is turned and back again. It should feel smooth in both directions, but if it is rough in one direction or the other you will have this issue.
This can be caused by bent steering arms or linkage, toe misalignment, worn idler arms or tie rod ends.
If you spot this call us to book your vehicle in for an inspection to determine the cause of the problem.
Cupped Wear Pattern
Around the edge of the tyre in random places you will see worn dips in the tread.
This can be caused by your tyres being out of balance or weakened shock absorbers or struts.
To fix this you need your wheels balancing first, but the worse case scenario is that absorbers or struts have weekened and need to be replaced.
Centre Tyre Wearing Only
You find that the centre of your tyre has worn, but the edges have not.
This is the sign of over inflated tyres and the centre bulges out with the tyre pressure.
To fix this you should reference your manufactures manual for the required pressure needed in each tyre and get the correct tyre pressure in your tyres.
Edges Worn More
If your edges of the tyre a worn more than the centre you may have under inflated tyres. This causes a dip in the centre, the edges to bulge more thus putting higher friction and weight there.
To fix this you should reference your manufactures manual for the required pressure needed in each tyre and get the correct tyre pressure in your tyres.
By checking your tyres on a regular basis you will have peace of mind and avoid any unexpected incidents.
